#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo underscored the fundamental principle that Mexico’s sovereignty must be «conquered, protected, and defended day after day», requiring deep-seated national values. She made this powerful assertion during a significant ceremony held in the port of Veracruz, commemorating the 204th anniversary of the Mexican Navy’s establishment. The event also marked the 201st anniversary of the promulgation of the 1824 Constitution, linking historical milestones with the present state of the nation.
The President stated that “Sovereignty is neither an easy inheritance nor a fleeting gift,” arguing that defending it necessitates core values within both citizens and institutions. She specifically praised the Mexican Armed Forces for embodying honour, which demands upright living; loyalty, meaning absolute fidelity to the people and the nation; duty, the drive to fulfil their mission without hesitation; patriotism, an act of profound love; and honesty, which serves as the essential foundation for all other principles. “Without it, nothing endures,” Sheinbaum Pardo asserted.
She emphasised the interconnectedness of historical events that define national sovereignty, including the Navy’s creation and the commemoration of the First Constitution of the Republic. The Executive Head also highlighted the victory of 23 November 1825, which conclusively “secured independence at sea”. These foundational acts, she noted, are vital for continually reminding the nation of the profound and ongoing significance of national sovereignty and its defence.
The Federal Executive Head underscored the enduring role of the Mexican Navy as a “pillar of the homeland,” whose personnel have consistently demonstrated a profound commitment to Mexico. President Sheinbaum recalled the 4 October 1821 decision by the Ministry of War and Marine to create a dedicated force to safeguard the nation, marking the origin of the modern Armed Forces. This anniversary is closely tied to the forthcoming celebration in November of 200 years of securing Independence along the nation’s coasts and at sea.
