#Naucalpan#StateOfMexico.- The municipality of Naucalpan, which hosts the largest university community outside of Mexico City’s Ciudad Universitaria—including the CCH Naucalpan and FES Acatlán—has solidified a close relationship with the UNAM. This bond is marked by a willingness for mutual support, affirmed by the Municipal President, Isaac Montoya Márquez, for the benefit of student life and municipal development. His commitment followed his reception of the Distinguished Alumnus accolade from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FCPyS) at UNAM’s main campus.

The Distinguished Alumnus award was presented by Alejandro Chanona, the Director of FCPyS, who lauded the values that Mr. Montoya Márquez acquired as a student, noting they are now reflected in his daily work. Mr. Chanona highlighted how the Mayor’s leadership in Naucalpan demonstrates ethical values, promoting equality, equity, and justice for the community. He noted this commitment furthers the development of the municipality, the State of Mexico, and the nation. “What an honour to have you back in your academic home and, above all, to recognise your work which clearly reflects the values and education your university and this faculty gave you,” the Director expressed.

In the presence of FCPyS officials and municipal civil servants, the Mayor conveyed his sincere emotion at returning to his former faculty and reiterated his firm disposition for ongoing mutual assistance. Mr. Montoya Márquez recalled that, from a young age, he understood that the goal was not merely «discussion in the classrooms», but to «take the university to the streets» and «apply the learning in the territory». He stressed the importance of bringing citizens into the university environment to seek solutions together, ensuring practical and territorial application of academic knowledge.

“I owe everything to the faculty; they honour us by having us back. Count on us as friends and allies, as an adherent to the faculty,” Montoya Márquez declared, emphasising his deep loyalty. “We want to join and support in everything we are invited to do. I am an adherent, I am one more soldier of the faculty,” he added. This ceremony, which celebrated the FCPyS’s long-standing mission to form professionals of excellence and values, also aimed to reconnect alumni with the institution as it prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary next year.
