#SecretaryOf Economy#México.- The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, convened a key meeting today with Mexican Senators, who are members of the Economy and the TMEC Review and Implementation Commissions. The high-level consultation was organised to update lawmakers on the current status of trade negotiations with the United States. Furthermore, Mr. Ebrard formally initiated discussions regarding the upcoming internal consultations in preparation for the mandated TMEC review in 2026.

During the constructive and diverse meeting, Secretary Ebrard highlighted Mexico’s strong position, informing the Senators that «85% of our trade with the US is tariff-free». He asserted that this favourable status gives Mexico a significant commercial advantage over many other nations in the global market. The Minister also underscored the fundamental role that the Senate will play in the public consultation process, scheduled to take place over the coming weeks.

The head of the Economy Secretariat stressed the confidence Mexico currently enjoys as an investment destination, detailing the progress of the Shared Prosperity Investment Portfolio. Mr. Ebrard outlined Mexico’s strategic approach to the evolving new commercial order, emphasising the nation’s stability and appeal to international capital. The Secretariat has publicly committed to working closely with Senators from across the political spectrum to ensure a consensus-driven strategy.

This collaborative effort is focused on securing the strongest possible position for the country ahead of the TMEC review as the Government seeks to strengthen Mexico’s standing on the world stage. Accompanying the Secretary were senior officials, including Vidal Llerenas, Undersecretary for Industry and Commerce; Ximena Escobedo, Head of the Productive Development Unit; Deborah Alcocer, Head of the Commercial Practices Unit; and Daniel Millán, Director General of Social Communication.
