#Acapulco, #Guerrero.- The Municipal President, Abelina López Rodríguez, led a crucial meeting at the Eighth Naval Region base with representatives from the three tiers of government, aimed at tracking the current weather forecast and strengthening inter-institutional coordination. Attending the summit were officials from Civil Protection and Firefighters, the State Government, and Capama, where the Mayor underscored the compelling need to maintain investment in civil protection to safeguard residents. «I will continue investing in Civil Protection for my final two years in office. We will keep reinforcing meteorological systems, sirens, and alerts to allow us to anticipate rainfall and protect the public,» the Mayor asserted, firmly stating that «One does not gamble with life and natural phenomena.»
Mayor López Rodríguez stressed the urgency of creating a resilient city capable of facing increasingly complex natural events, acknowledging the unwavering support of the Navy, the National Guard, and Conagua. She also appealed for international cooperation to install buoys and sensors to better monitor the impact of climate change and community safety. Within this context, the Coordinator of Civil Protection and Firefighters, Raúl Noyola Rocha, confirmed that the night had passed without incident, maintaining a clean slate, yet cautioned that rainfall could intensify in the early hours, necessitating the continuation of preventive operations in critical areas.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Integrated Management and Civil Protection of Guerrero, Roberto Arroyo Matus, reaffirmed the state’s collaboration, highlighting the deployment of multifunctional sensors to monitor both the climate and water quality. The Director of Capama, Antonio Lorenzo Rojas Marcial, detailed the maintenance work carried out on critical drainage zones and canals such as Misión del Mar and La Poza, but warned that some areas remain vulnerable to intense downpours. He therefore urged close coordination with state authorities to reinforce the pumping system and prevent flooding in residential areas, underscoring that joint action is vital for mitigating risks and protecting the citizenry.
