#FederalGovernment#Mexico.- The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), has activated the Plan Michoacán for Peace and Justice by announcing the implementation of the Gertrudis Bocanegra scholarship, a transport allowance of 1,900 pesos every two months. Beginning on Monday, 24 November, informative assemblies in 121 schools will be launched, benefiting 98,569 students with a total investment of 769 million pesos (mdp). This effort adds to the national impact of welfare programmes, which now support more than 13 million beneficiaries across all levels of education.

In the national context, the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, outlined the extensive investment in educational coverage, noting that in Basic Education the investment amounts to 4,977 mdp, with 5.59 million Universal Rita Cetina scholarships awarded and 16,297 secondary schools supported through “La Escuela Es Nuestra” (LEEN). For Upper Secondary Education, investment totals 4,429 mdp, providing 4 million Universal Benito Juárez scholarships and supporting 6,050 upper secondary schools under the same programme.

The target for growth in Upper Secondary Education enrolment shows progress of 85 per cent, with 44,685 new places created out of a total goal of 120,000. By 2026, the creation of 65,400 new places is projected, including 30,000 additional places derived from the Plan Michoacán, which will allow the government to exceed the six-year commitment. Meanwhile, the Director-General of LEEN, Pamela López Ruiz, reported that in 2025 the programme has benefited 69,302 schools with an investment of 25,000 mdp, reaching 8.1 million students.

The National Coordinator of Welfare Scholarships, Julio César León Trujillo, emphasised that the support benefits more than 13 million students across the three educational levels, with a total investment of 73,000 mdp. This educational and social strategy reaffirms the commitment to “guaranteeing the right to education” for young people in Mexico and, in particular, to promoting development and the restoration of peace in Michoacán.
