#AlcaldíaÁlvaroObregón, #CiudadDeMéxico.- The Mayor of Álvaro Obregón, Javier López Casarín, strongly defended his first year in office before the Mexico City Congress, where he presented the 2026 Economic Package and requested an 11 per cent budget increase compared with the 2025 fiscal year. Among the most notable achievements highlighted was a 32 per cent reduction in high-impact crime and a tripling of patrol capacity through the acquisition of 125 new patrol vehicles, positioning the borough as the best-rated for police efficiency. The Mayor’s vision for 2026 includes consolidating these gains and launching a groundbreaking microsatellite to enhance urban planning and risk mitigation.

The Mayor’s strategy, known as Comprehensive Security Strategy 360, also requires funding to transform Base Plata into an Advanced Intelligence Centre, significantly improving response times for both the Police and Civil Protection services. Furthermore, López Casarín outlined successes in recovering illegally occupied public spaces, citing the repossession of a car park on Avenida 5 de Mayo and the Colinas del Sur Ecological Park. The new budget proposal allocates 4,384 million pesos for the coming year, compared to the 3,950 million pesos approved for the current fiscal period.

In response to questions from deputies, López Casarín explained that the microsatellite, MXÁO-1, is scheduled to be placed into orbit this week, a concrete outcome of the “triple helix” model, which brings together universities, government and industry. The satellite, he said, «will allow us to generate information for decision-making in matters of urban planning, preservation of our natural resources, risk mitigation, among many other issues. The data will be available to everyone.»
