#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- The south of Mexico regains its railway heartbeat with a decisive boost to connectivity and regional development. The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, presided in Chiapas over the inauguration of the Tonalá and Arriaga stations, two strategic points of section 1 of the Línea K of the Tren Interoceánico. This milestone marks the resumption of passenger train services in a vital area, promising to integrate the mobility of thousands of citizens across the Isthmus, from the Gulf to the Pacific. The President unveiled the commemorative plaque in Tonalá and performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolising the rebirth of this essential route.
The relaunch is not merely symbolic, as from Saturday 22 November passengers will be able to purchase tickets and travel along the route extending to Ixtepec, Oaxaca. “From tomorrow you may already buy your ticket, you can go from here to Tonalá, from here to Ixtepec, from there to Salina Cruz, from Salina Cruz to Coatzacoalcos and from Coatzacoalcos to Palenque,” declared the Head of State during her tour of the Parque Lineal at Arriaga station. Accompanied by the governors Eduardo Ramírez of Chiapas, and Salomón Jara Cruz of Oaxaca, she announced that the railway will continue to Ciudad Hidalgo, on the border with Guatemala, including a remarkable viaduct in Huixtla.
The Secretaría de Marina was commended by the President for its crucial role in making the project possible, strengthening the economic and social integration of the Mexican southeast. The Línea K is structured in three main sections: from Ciudad Ixtepec to Tonalá, from Tonalá to Huixtla, and from Huixtla to Ciudad Hidalgo, together with the KA branch, which links Los Toros with Puerto Chiapas.
This infrastructure consolidates the vision of a more connected Mexico, opening a new era of opportunities for passenger and freight transport, invigorating the local and regional economy and reaffirming the nation’s commitment to progress and integration.
