“On this date, which is so special for the people of Mexico, I spoke by telephone with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to invite him to visit our nation. He sends his blessings and greetings to everyone on this Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
“We agreed that, beyond the religion professed by each individual and the secular nature of the State, Our Lady of Guadalupe is a symbol of identity and peace for all Mexicans,” she shared on her social media accounts.
During the phone conversation, the Head of the Federal Executive was accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, and by the Deputy Minister for North America and Acting Foreign Secretary, Roberto Velasco Álvarez.
On 18 May 2025, the Minister of the Interior delivered to Pope Leo XIV, during the ceremony marking the beginning of his pontificate, the formal letter of invitation from the President of Mexico.
