“Mexico Is Written With an M for Migrant” as Government Rejects Criminalisation and Expands Repatriation Efforts / @Claudiashein @GobiernoMX
#MigrantsAreHeroes #MigrationWithDignity —– #FederalGovernment, #Mexico.– In a poignant tribute during International Migrants Day, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo declared that “Mexico is written with an M for migrant,” an assertion that frames her administration’s ethos. Defining these individuals as national heroines and heroes, the Head of State rejected any policies that “criminalise migrants,” advocating instead for a paradigm of international cooperation. By tackling poverty and inequality through direct investment in nations of origin, the government seeks to address the root causes of displacement whilst ensuring the protection of citizens abroad.
The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, detailed the expansive reach of the “Mexico Welcomes You” strategy, which has facilitated over 145,000 repatriations this year. Operationally, this involves nine dedicated reception centres across strategic states like Chiapas and Tamaulipas, providing a humane transition for those returning by land or air. These facilities ensure that the repatriation process is not merely a logistical return, but a comprehensive social reintegration supported by government infrastructure.
Simultaneously, the National Migration Institute, led by Commissioner Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, has launched the “Winter 2025 Heroic Fellow Citizens” initiative to assist the seasonal influx of travellers. A significant milestone was the recent arrival of a 20,000-strong caravan through Nuevo Laredo, which received full institutional escort and support. This proactive engagement is bolstered by a 24/7 Command Centre, ensuring that legal assistance and safety remain paramount for those traversing the nation’s borders.
The administration’s commitment remains firm in offering employment alternatives and social services to those seeking a new beginning within the country. From healthcare enrolments to educational support, the objective is to provide a dignified path for every individual. As the President concluded during “The People’s Morning Press Conferences,” this humanitarian approach “will always be our position.”
