These funds, derived from the national lottery draw “Mexico with an M for Migrant”, will finance six pivotal actions designed to fortify consular protection across the United States. During the presidential briefing known as “The People’s Morning Press Conference”, officials emphasised that this capital will provide a robust legal shield for vulnerable individuals facing complex immigration proceedings in foreign jurisdictions.

The Acting Foreign Secretary, Roberto Velasco Álvarez, specified that 50 million pesos will be dedicated to legal representation and the settlement of bail bonds. An additional 35 million will facilitate the recruitment of specialised legal staff in 22 high-demand consulates, ensuring that expert counsel is readily available. This strategic deployment aims to identify cases with significant merits to halt deportations, effectively transforming the quality of assistance provided to the Mexican diaspora.

Furthermore, the initiative allocates 10 million pesos to intensify inspections at detention centres and another 10 million for extraordinary protection sessions. A collaborative scheme in Chicago will also allow detained nationals to pursue their legal processes in freedom, supported by a specific 300,000-dollar fund. These measures, championed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, reflect a humanised approach to diplomacy, prioritising the dignity and liberty of every compatriot regardless of their geographic location.

As International Migrants Day is observed, this financial roadmap stands as a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian support. From emergency disaster relief to preventive protection in 13 border consulates, the state’s presence is being fundamentally modernised. Ultimately, these actions ensure that the national interest is protected through a more agile, specialised, and compassionate consular network.
