(#IzcalliPrevention – #LetsWalkSafely) *** #CuautitlánIzcalli, #EstadoDeMéxico.- Mayor #DanielSerranoPalacios is leading an urban strategy aimed at transforming different areas of #Izcalli through corridors designed to improve mobility and strengthen #Security conditions. With an investment of 62,218,368.03 pesos, the #SenderosCaminemosSeguras initiative incorporates lighting, video surveillance, pedestrian infrastructure and the recovery of #PublicSpaces. The initiative adopts a #GenderPerspective, with particular attention to the mobility conditions of women and girls. Its purpose is to promote urban environments that are more visible, accessible and functional for those who use them on a daily basis.
One of the main projects is being carried out along Primero de Mayo Avenue, where the corridor covers 6,730 meters and encompasses a range of urban improvement measures. The intervention includes 400 roadway lights, 100 lighting poles, video surveillance cameras and panic buttons, as well as signage and safe crossings. These works are complemented by paving, sidewalk and curb rehabilitation, along with the installation of benches and bus shelters. Through these measures, the project seeks to improve the physical conditions of an area with heavy pedestrian traffic.
In Infonavit Norte, the intervention extends along Nevado de Toluca Avenue, the Infonavit Segunda Sección Housing Unit and El Gallinero Sports Field, covering a total distance of 2,400 meters. The project includes 50 lights and 30 integrated poles equipped with panic buttons, speakers, sirens and lighting, in addition to 53 video surveillance cameras. Pruning, pothole repairs, signage and the installation of safe crossings are also being carried out. At El Gallinero, the recovery project includes synthetic turf, an athletics track, new goalposts and renovated stands, with the aim of transforming the area into a multipurpose sports facility.

The urban intervention is taking place as Cuautitlán Izcalli records recent changes in several security indicators: between January and August 2026, a 26% decrease in high-impact crimes was reported compared with the same period in 2024, while perceptions of insecurity also declined during the second quarter of the year. Within this context, Daniel Serrano Palacios has placed prevention, territorial recovery and institutional coordination among the central components of the municipal security strategy. These developments form part of the broader context in which work on the «Caminemos Seguras» corridors is progressing.
The program also includes a 700-meter corridor along Paricutín Avenue, between Citlaltépec and Popocatépetl, where lighting, integrated poles, cameras and emergency devices will be installed. Taken together, these interventions propose a gradual recovery of public space through urban infrastructure, technology and community-based initiatives. In this way, «Caminemos Seguras» seeks to facilitate everyday travel in areas offering improved lighting, surveillance, accessibility and access to assistance in the event of potential emergencies.
