Chiapas exhibits its wealth of handicrafts and tourism at Punto México

Torruco Marqués commented that in this exhibition, visitors will be able to learn a little more about the culture of Chiapas and acquire textiles from the indigenous communities of Chamula and Zinacantán; pottery from Lacanjá; fine wood objects from San Cristóbal de las Casas; and basketry from Alacandona, as well as coffee and the traditional queso de bola from Ocosingo, to mention a few products.
He pointed out that Chiapas has an «unbeatable opportunity to develop a different kind of tourism, one that is not centered on mass tourism practices, overexploitation of the tourist heritage and damage to our historical and cultural identity».
The head of Sectur said that for this year it is estimated that 40 million international tourists will arrive in Mexico, an economic spill of 24,250 million dollars, as well as an average annual hotel occupancy of 54.3%, and the participation of 8.3% in the National GDP, only three tenths of a percent less than in 2019.
