#IMSS.- High-tech equipment is available to perform biopsies to corroborate the suspected diagnosis in a short period of time, so that patients can be referred to the third level of care to begin treatment.

Thanks to the work performed by specialized personnel at the Breast Clinic of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Jalisco, many patients are diagnosed and treated immediately to refer breast cancer.

The director of the unit, Dr. Sergio Osvaldo Meza Chavolla, explained that they have high-tech equipment that makes it possible to perform biopsies to corroborate or not the suspected diagnosis in a short period of time, so that patients can be referred to the Third Level of Care to begin their treatment.

An example of this is Irene, 43 years old, who was reported as BIRADS 5, the highest suspicion classification for breast cancer. She underwent a diagnostic evaluation, performing a mastography and ultrasound, in addition to a biopsy for an accurate and timely diagnosis. Confirmation of the results was not only obtained within a week, but in a little more than three weeks she began follow-up with an oncologist from the department, with excellent results.

She was received at the Breast Clinic in 2019, because of a lump in her left breast. «I discovered it, I think in the month of February, where I had a mastography, but the truth is that I did not pay attention, I did not treat it out of apathy, until August when I went for a private check-up and I was advised to go to the Institute because there was a high suspicion. I arrived at the Breast Clinic in September and when they summoned me to give me the news they asked me to go with a family member. There was the director, Social Work. It was very hard but I felt very welcomed by them», she indicated.
