Mexico and United States close Autoliv Steering Wheels Mexico case under T-MEC Rapid Response Labor Mechanism >>>

#Economy.- In the framework of the Labor Rapid Response Mechanism in Specific Facilities (MLRR) of the Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), the Government of Mexico, through the Ministries of Economy and Labor and Social Welfare (STPS), reports the successful closure of the case regarding the alleged denial of freedom of association and collective bargaining rights at the Autoliv Steering Wheels Mexico plant, located in El Marqués, Querétaro.

Mexico and the United States concluded that the facts that were the subject of the request through the MLRR were resolved within the 45 calendar day period established by the T-MEC for the internal review of the Mexican Government.

It should be recalled that, in the results of the investigation that our country shared with the U.S. government on January 4, 2024, the existence of certain actions by the company that could have constituted a denial of such rights was determined.

However, during Mexico’s investigation period, the company carried out the following remedial actions, in coordination with the STPS:

  • Published and disseminated a letter of commitment to neutrality in union matters and a document defining guidelines for conduct by company personnel;
  • Provided training to all employees in the plant on the content of the neutrality charter and guidelines for conduct;
  • Facilitated STPS training for plant workers on freedom of association and collective bargaining rights; and
  • Reinstated three workers and terminated seven more, in accordance with the Federal Labor Law.
