#SECTUR.- From this meeting, World Vision Mexico and the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico (SECTUR), through a cooperation agreement, consolidated and lead the #TurismoXLaNiñez Initiative, as an intersectoral effort, supported by the Executive Secretariat of the National System for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (SE SIPINNA), the Tourism Offices of the Governments of the States, and various participating agencies, whose main objective is to convene the public, social and private sectors to work in coordination to protect children, adolescents and young people from human trafficking for sexual and labor exploitation, as well as child labor in Mexico’s tourist destinations.

As part of this Initiative, the National Consultation on Safe Tourism Destinations for Children, Adolescents and Youth was coordinated, with the participation of 115,086 minors in the 32 states, the results of which revealed very important data and some other worrisome data.

Among them, 40% of the participants consider that girls, boys, adolescents and young people can be forced by adults to have sexual activities. Also, 19.4% proposed that governments and institutions pay more attention to the needs and concerns of children and adolescents.

In his initial message, José Gabriel Rosillo Iglesias, head of SECTUR’s Administration and Finance Unit, on behalf of the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, stated that «this Consultation is the first step in a series of actions being taken to ensure that the #TurismoXLaNiñez Initiative commits to a participatory involvement of a public, private and social sector that listens and attends to what children and adolescents expressed.»
