Benito Juarez Mayor’s Office achieves record water collection in the CDMX / @BJAlcaldia >>>

#BenitoJuárez, #CDMX.- The municipality of Benito Juarez achieved a record collection of 25 million liters of rainwater for human use in the CDMX, through the 6 automated water systems installed in public buildings of the district, which has allowed to store, reuse and not to waste the vital liquid, as well as to generate economic savings.

In 5 years, this rainwater collection system, the only one of its kind in the CDMX, has supplied the population with pipes in case of contingencies, has been used to extinguish fires, has been used to irrigate green areas and has supplied the mayor’s office buildings.

The one located in the «Francisco Márquez» Olympic Pool alone, the largest in the country, collected more than 16 million liters, which represents more than 1,600 pipes.

In addition to benefiting the environment, since the water collected is not extracted from wells or from the public network, it represents a 40% saving in the water consumption of public buildings.

This sustainable strategy implemented in the district makes it a benchmark because it is an alternative source of water that helps mitigate water shortages, replaces costly and inefficient methods and is an effective solution to the problem of water scarcity in Mexico City.
