#SICT.- The Undersecretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jesús Felipe Verdugo López, stated that the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge project in Cancun will have the largest environmental restoration program ever carried out by this Ministry.

He explained that, in the process of building the bridge, the environmental compensation and mitigation work includes 306 hectares of mangrove reforestation, while the damage will be less than four hectares.

The work on the project has a general physical progress of 38 percent and is expected to be completed in August of this year; it is being developed as a public work with resources from the Federal Expenditure Budget (PEF), and will be toll-free.

While participating in the 94th anniversary of the Civil Engineering Faculty of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Verdugo López stated that the infrastructure is part of Cancun’s Strategic Projects, which together with the Cancun Airport Distributor, the Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard and Chac Mool Avenue (these three already completed), will invest a total of 9 billion 106 million pesos (mdp).

The bridge consists of 8.8 kilometers (km), two junctions (Colosio and Kukulcan), a bicycle lane, a system of walkways and lighting, as well as an «arch» bridge; it will be equipped with intelligent transportation systems (ITS) connected to a C4 security system, a bicycle lane and bus stops.
