#IMSS.- The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the government of Puebla handed over the first 2,638 bases to workers incorporated into the health services of the Decentralized Public Body (OPD) IMSS-Bienestar, an act of justice that represents dignified work, with benefits, job security and personal growth as part of a free, public federal institution.
During the symbolic delivery ceremony held at the Puebla Exhibition Center, IMSS Director General Zoé Robledo acknowledged the workers who in this first phase receive their basification and who, in the case of Puebla, spent many years with temporary, precarious and temporary contracts.
He affirmed that 1,200 million pesos a year will be invested in this basification process, «but it is not for the money, it is for justice, for history, for their work, their dedication, for their endurance, patience and tenacity to know that this day was going to come».
He urged the workers to feel proud to belong to the new IMSS-Bienestar and that when attending to the open population they should know that they are their only hope, «they are there to attend to those who have the least, who lack social security, who are unemployed or who have lost some opportunity and are looking for health services. I am sure they will attend them very well».
Zoé Robledo said that it was possible to reach this moment with the sum of the joint work of federal and state authorities, who are committed to the cause of health, with the people of Puebla and their families; the government of Puebla and the new IMSS-Bienestar have been up to the task.
«IMSS-Bienestar is not going to enter as a new institution that will transfer units, Health Centers, hospitals in a forced and authoritarian manner. It will be the decision of each of the governors to make this transfer in order to create the institution from there throughout the country,» he pointed out.
