Executive Branch proposes to elevate passenger rail transportation to constitutional rank: Nuño Lara / @jorgenunol @SICTmx >>>

#SICT.- The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jorge Nuño Lara, stated that the proposed reform to Article 28 of the Constitution proposes to elevate to constitutional rank and recognize passenger rail transportation as a priority area for national development.

The new criteria proposed by the Federal Executive will meet the growing needs of citizens in terms of mobility, guaranteeing Mexicans a safe, efficient, sustainable, sustainable and competitive means of transportation, he explained during his participation in the morning conference before President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
With the constitutional reform, he said, the Mexican State retakes the right to use the nation’s railroads, and thus be able to grant concessions to private companies or allocations to public companies to carry out the promotion and implementation of the public passenger transportation service.

For this reason, the SICT has received expressions of interest from the main cargo concession companies (Ferromex, Ferrosur and KCSM) in 8 railroad routes in the country to participate in the implementation process to provide passenger service.
The proposals, under review, will seek to serve the following routes:
o Mexico-Querétaro-León-Aguascalientes
o Manzanillo-Colima-Guadalajara-Irapuato
o Mexico-Queretaro-Guadalajara-Tepic-Mazatlan-Nogales and
o Aguascalientes-Chihuahua-Ciudad Juárez, by Ferromex.
o Mexico-Veracruz-Coatzacoalcos train, and o Interurban AIFA-Pachecoalcos train.
o Interurban AIFA-Pachuca, by Ferrosur.
o Mexico-Queretaro
o and Querétaro-San Luis Potosí-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo, on behalf of KCSM.
