#SECTUR.- Inaugurating the Expo Forum Mobility 2024 organized by the National Chamber of Passenger Transportation and Tourism (Canapat), the head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) stressed that according to data from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), in 2022, 661 million 320 thousand passengers were transported by bus with tourist service to different destinations in the country.

He added that the daily movement of tourist transportation throughout the country contributes to the strengthening of domestic tourism, the backbone of our industry, and boosts road tourism, which is connected to most productive activities and the tourism value chain.
Torruco Marqués said that in 2023, domestic tourism accounted for a total of 259 million domestic tourists, of which 102 million stayed in hotels, and represented a lodging consumption of 200 billion pesos, or 5.0% of total tourism consumption.

He stated that tourism requires an articulation between the tourist centers and the transportation services in order to promote the development and growth of national tourism. He reiterated that safe and efficient transportation, which provides accessibility from abroad and mobility at the destination, is essential to generate a good image for visitors to our 270 tourist destinations, as is the road infrastructure.

In this regard, he pointed out that Mexico has a total of 780,511 kilometers of roads and highlighted the construction of the recently inaugurated Oaxaca-Puerto Escondido highway, in its Barranca Larga-Ventanilla section, which will considerably reduce travel time and distance.
