#GobiernoDeMéxico.- The 116 active forest fires in different parts of the country are being attended by 6,000 elements of the Ministries of National Defense and the Navy, as well as specialized personnel from the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) and the National Coordination of Civil Protection, informed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

«Just telling people to act carefully, that what matters most to us is to protect them. So far there is no serious risk to populations; the Civil Protection public servants are pending so that, if necessary, evictions can be carried out, to protect the people», he emphasized in a morning press conference.

The President pointed out that the Mexican Government carries out a daily analysis of the situation in order to reinforce the work of the permanent brigades.

Of the total number of fires registered at the moment, he said, more than 20 are located in the State of Mexico, which is why he is in constant communication with Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez in order to coordinate the work with municipal and local authorities.

The fire in Valle de Bravo was controlled, while the one reported in the municipality of Jilotzingo was reactivated this morning and is being attended to. The president indicated that the Secretariat of National Defense will deploy more members in the region.

«What we want is to be attentive so that the number of fires does not increase, that there are no misfortunes and that we can move forward in this season of drought that, as it has not rained, there is dry grass for fires,» he argued.

«We would have to see if they are arson fires or if they are caused by the drought situation and those who are not careful and provoke the fires without there being a motive behind it -which is not ruled out- that of the companies that divide the land, that are dedicated to building houses», he added.
