Mexico strengthens cooperation relations with the League of Arab States / @aliciabarcena @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- The presentation of the Public Policy Report for Strengthening Mexico’s Relations with Arab Countries was held yesterday, headed by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, and the special representative of the Secretary General of the League of Arab States (LAS), Abdulkhalig bin Rafaa.

Also participating in the event were the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula; the head of the National Customs Agency, André Georges Foullon Van Lissum; the dean of the Arab Group in Mexico and Ambassador of Palestine, Mohamed Saadat; and the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, María Teresa Mercado Pérez.

The report makes specific recommendations for collaboration between Mexico and the 22 LEA member countries and identifies areas of opportunity to improve cooperation.

In her speech, the Foreign Minister said that the report represents «an unprecedented effort between Mexico and the Arab countries to strengthen ties and bring us closer to a goal we share: the well-being of our societies and our peoples.»

«Our cultures, translated into foreign policy, have been positioning Mexico and the League of Arab States as respected voices in the global south, benefiting from dynamic exchanges […] we have many more valuable opportunities for cooperation, based on our strategic locations in the processes of relocation in global supply chains and the relative complementarity of our economies,» she pointed out.
In addition, the head of the SRE highlighted that during the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, 26 agreements have been signed with LEA countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar, as well as a significant increase in trade between the regions.
