State Department recommendations on human rights violate sovereignty, says AMLO / @lopezobrador_ @GobiernoMX >>>

#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador considered that the recent recommendations on human rights issued by the U.S. State Department violate the sovereignty of Mexico and its people.
“They are no one to be extending letters of good conduct to countries and independent and sovereign peoples. They say: ‘No, we have been doing it since 1977’. Well, take it out because it is obsolete. And then they say: ‘We do it to inform the Senate of who is behaving well, who is behaving badly, so that we can give help to those who behave well’. That is false,” he said.

In a morning press conference, the president said that “it is a double standard. I regret it very much because I wish with all my heart that they would change this foreign policy because it does not do them any good; well, it does not do the people any good, but it does not help them either. It is already an outdated, stale, anachronistic policy that is more than 200 years old”.

He explained that the recommendations published by the State Department supposedly serve to inform the U.S. Senate and determine on the basis of the same to which nations aid is sent; however, since the 1970s the United States has not provided resources for the development of Latin America and the Caribbean, a region that currently needs attention to control the causes of the migratory phenomenon.

“It is for military purposes only, but not for humanitarian purposes. If we have been insisting that they allocate resources to the poor peoples of Latin America, of the Caribbean, to face the problem of migration, the migratory phenomenon, attending to the causes because people do not leave their towns for pleasure, they leave out of necessity, well, they have not approved anything. Ah, but when it comes to sending money to Gaza or Ukraine, there they do agree in Congress and billions of dollars,” he said.

“Fortunately with us, those who come to deal with migration issues, with the fight against drugs, with the purpose of helping the people, are very respectful; President Biden is very respectful, President Trump was also respectful before, but there is always a group there, who are very advantageous,” he added.
