National Electric System is stronger than ever: CFE; atypical interruptions in electric power detailed / @lopezobrador_ @GobiernoMX >>>
#GobiernoDeMéxico.- The National Electric System (SEN) is consolidated in the country; at no time was it at risk due to the power cuts executed in a controlled and staggered manner last week in some states of the country with the purpose of maintaining balance between the demand and the generation of electricity, affirmed the general director of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Manuel Bartlett Díaz.
“The Mexican electric system is stronger than ever (…) The national electric system did not enter into crisis, it was never stopped, there was no damage to industry, to commerce, there was really no more than what has occurred in periods of one hour. We insist that this issue was caused throughout Latin America (…) The national electric system is impeccable, it is working», he remarked in a morning press conference with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The CFE head explained that the exceptional power outages were resolved with the reinstatement of equipment and machines that were undergoing preventive maintenance to face the summer season.
The CFE’s Corporate Director of Strategic Planning, Juan Antonio Fernández Correa, explained that Mexico’s generation capacity is 87 thousand megawatts. Last week’s extraordinary demand reached values close to 50 thousand megawatts, so there is enough to meet people’s needs.
From Tuesday, May 7 to Thursday, May 9, the National Electric System operated normally up to the peaks, that is, the hours with the highest electricity demand, so that in some regions there were blackouts from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. approximately.
