#SRE.- On June 17, the Cultural Immersion and Volunteerism Program (PICV) was inaugurated at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), through which 51 young people of Mexican origin from 24 regions of the United States will spend three days in Mexico City and then travel to Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán and Guerrero, the states participating in the 2024 edition.
The objective of the PICV is to strengthen the connection of the new generation of young people of Mexican origin with their culture and with our country, so that, through cultural immersion and volunteering, they will have a deeper vision of Mexico, and positively influence their education and social participation.
The young people will learn about the customs, traditions, culture, typical gastronomy and will do volunteer work in favor of the communities of the states participating in this edition. The program offers an enriching experience through the exchange of knowledge, experiences and resources to reach the maximum potential of the new generations of people of Mexican origin abroad.
During the inauguration, the head of the Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME), Luis Gutiérrez Reyes, pointed out that the PICV is a significant tool to establish links with the new generations of Mexican people, who will be the next leaders and permanent allies of Mexico abroad, as well as the first line of defense for our communities abroad.
He shared that the participants of previous editions have experienced a positive change in their lives by learning more about Mexican culture, education, politics, development, economy and idiosyncrasy. «Live with the people, ask questions, try the food, enjoy the landscapes, experience with all your senses this country, which is your grandparents’ and your parents’ country, but it is also yours,» he said.
