#SRE.- The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health, through the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris), as well as the embassies of Belgium and Denmark and the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Mexico, organized the Health and Access to Medicines-EU Global Gateway Seminar, to be held on June 20 and 21 at the Matías Romero Institute (IMR).
The objective of the meeting is to promote a rapprochement between the biopharmaceutical sector of the European system and the Mexican pharmaceutical industry, with the aim of exchanging best practices to guarantee the resilience of health systems, the construction of international alliances for the supply of vaccines and the equitable availability of medicines, as well as to advance towards the health self-sufficiency of the Latin American region.
During his intervention in the high-level panel, the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the SRE, Joel Hernández García, highlighted the efforts made by the Federal Government to strengthen the pharmaceutical sector through interregional integration mechanisms between Latin America and the EU to face health crises, based on the lessons learned from the pandemic. These strategies will allow for a medium and long-term increase in the manufacturing capacity of local and general-purpose medical supplies, through access to innovative products.
For his part, the Federal Commissioner for Protection against Health Risks, Alejandro Svarch Perez, recognized the importance of international cooperation between governments and industry to enhance the population’s access to health products, through regulatory channels that guarantee efficient health services and innovative, safe and effective quality pharmaceutical specialties. He also pointed out that self-sufficiency in health and the professionalization of personnel, through the Regional School of Health Regulation (ERRS), are fundamental pillars to achieve the universalization of health in our country.
