#ISSSTE.- The transversal strategy ECOS for Wellbeing, which promotes primary health care actions in medical units, deploys the «3×1:3 for my health» campaign in work centers, child care centers and community groups, to contribute to the reduction of sugar consumption in families and the general population, in order to reduce the risk of diabetes mellitus, the second leading cause of death and first cause of disability in Mexico, said the head of the Medical Directorate of the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (Issste), Ramiro López Elizalde.
The purpose is to encourage the population to take action to bring about positive changes towards healthier behaviors, he said.
With this action, which complements the current campaign «Si le baja al azúcar, ¡ya previssste, ya la hiciste!», the institute aims to encourage people to reduce their intake of sugary drinks and junk food, as well as to encourage them to adopt regular physical activity as a way of life, which together prevent overweight and obesity, the number one risk for diabetes.
To this end, the Medical Directorate has developed the 3×1:3 for my health campaign guide https://goo.su/VK9A8Sx, a reference tool for professionals from all medical units in the country and people interested in the subject, which contains excellent suggestions for improving knowledge and skills, in order to avoid risk behaviors for the development of chronic non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, and to help them choose the most appropriate options for nutrition and wellness.
