Mexico submits Fourth Voluntary National Report to the United Nations / @SE_mx >>>
#Economy.- The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Economy -which is in charge of the Executive Secretariat of the National Council of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development-, presented the Fourth Voluntary National Report to the United Nations High Level Political Forum 2024 (HLPF) and, in doing so, set a precedent by highlighting poverty reduction as the main achievement.
In her speech, the Secretary of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro, pointed out that thanks to social policies such as doubling the minimum wage, the Universal Pension for People over 65, added to the historic moment that trade, investments and employment in Mexico are going through, it is possible to render good accounts in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1, the most pressing to fulfill, which is to eradicate poverty.
“In Mexico, so far in our government more than 5 million people have left the condition of poverty in which they were, this has had a direct effect on reducing inequality,” he said.
He highlighted that, in 2018 people located in the richest decile earned 21 times more than those in the poorest decile, while, in 2022, this difference was reduced 15 times, so these achievements represent the greatest reduction recorded not only in terms of poverty, but also in terms of inequality.
Through this exercise, he said, we also demonstrate the concordance that exists between the SDGs and the humanist vision of the Government of Mexico, since we are both based on the same premise, to close the gaps generated by poverty and environmental deterioration.
