Judge in Qatar files decision in the case of Manuel Guerrero Aviña / @SRE_mx >>>
#SRE.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) informs that yesterday (July 31) the hearing in the case of Manuel Guerrero Aviña, a British-Mexican citizen, was held. Today the judge published his decision confirming the sentence imposed on him at the hearing on June 4.
In view of this result, the Mexican ambassador in Qatar, Guillermo Ordorica Robles, contacted Manuel Guerrero, who indicated that he will make arrangements for his definitive departure from Qatar in the next few days, with the support of his lawyer. As has been the case since his arrest, Mexico’s diplomatic representation will continue to provide accompaniment and follow-up until the case is concluded.
Since March 17, Mr. Guerrero has been on probation. The case has been handled in coordination with the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Qatar, due to his residence in that country as a British citizen. For its part, and from the very first moment, the Mexican Embassy has given him due follow-up and accompaniment: after his arrest, Mexican diplomatic personnel in Doha was the first to visit him, provided him with support with his translator, facilitated access to medication and provided him with the contact for the lawyer who represents him, and met in Qatar with his family on February 11 and March 10 and 16, respectively.
Mexican diplomatic personnel, accompanied by his translator, visited him on February 6 and March 5 and 12, and met with him at the embassy headquarters on April 18 and 24, May 27 and June 27, the latter date accompanied by his mother. In addition to these actions, the SRE is in permanent contact with family members to keep them informed of the progress and prospects of the case. It should be noted that the Mexican Embassy and the General Directorate of Protection and Strategic Planning of the SRE established contact with authorities of the Ministry of Health to facilitate and send him enough medicines for a period of six months.
