#Cultura.- The National Museum of Anthropology presented the computer program for voice recognition and synthesis called VoxArs, developed by linguist and inventor Boris Fridman Mintz, with the aim of offering a technological tool that contributes to the rescue, preservation and dissemination of linguistic heritage, among other uses.
The project is the «combination of technology and innovation linked to the work of indigenous peoples and academia for the defense and strengthening of native languages,» said Diego Prieto Hernández, general director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), an agency of the Mexican Ministry of Culture.
«The approach is to build a public company that can take charge of the promotion, implementation and commercialization of this program,» said the anthropologist.
In his speech, Fridman Mintz, who has worked as a researcher and professor at INAH, explained that VoxArs is an analytical acoustic model, the only one that exists with this approach. «It is not simply a technological issue, my purpose was to model human perception, as well as to allow access to this technology to the greatest number of people.»
In turn, Roberto Flores Ortiz, research professor at the Department of Ethnology and Anthropology, said that the proposal is aimed at government agencies interested in the creation of a public company, VoxScripta, which would offer the speech recognition and synthesis services that VoxArs promotes to the communities of speakers, academics, companies and users in general.
