Mexico holds national meeting to implement Global Biodiversity Framework through Multilateral Environmental Agreements >>>
#SRE.- On August 6 and 7, the National Meeting: Synergies between Multilateral Environmental Agreements for the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (MMB-KM) was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE). The event aimed to identify challenges and opportunities to contribute to the efficient implementation of the MMB-KM and various Multilateral Environmental Agreements (Amuma) in Mexico.
The forum, organized with the support of the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) and the United Nations System (UNDP, FAO and UNEP), was attended by representatives of more than 15 ministries and commissions of the Federal Government, state governments and the Legislative Branch, as well as international cooperation agencies.
During her speech at the inauguration, the SRE’s General Director for Global Issues, Camila Zepeda Lizama, emphasized that «this national effort, inspired by the Berne III Conference, whose objective is to promote synergies between multilateral environmental agreements, is unprecedented in the world, as it transfers an international exercise to the national level».
The event focused on generating schemes for the various agencies and entities of the Mexican Government to identify challenges and opportunities to collaborate in an agile manner, without duplicating efforts and making resources more efficient in relation to the implementation of the MMB-KM and Amuma.
In this regard, the importance of the Amuma as essential tools to address complex environmental challenges, such as habitat loss, climate change, the presence of invasive alien species, overexploitation and pollution, was highlighted.
