#ISSSTE.- In order to increase prevention and timely treatment for women, the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) inaugurated the Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis Center at the «Indianilla» Specialty Clinic (CE), located in the Doctores neighborhood of Mexico City, which offers free services to all women, whether or not they are members of the Institute.

The person in charge of the Institute’s National Priority Breast Cancer Program, Anel Arellano Tejeda, highlighted that, as part of the federal government’s strategy to guarantee the human right to health, the agency implemented these centers that aim to reduce the leading cause of oncological death in women.

«Less than two years ago, we set ourselves the task of optimizing material and human resources in second level medical units, to install these sites. Last year we performed 29,220 mastographies in the Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis Centers, and we expect to increase this figure».

He pointed out that Issste considers breast cancer to be a pathology of national epidemiological interest, which is why it has high-tech digital mastographs and ultrasound scanners to carry out timely identification of breast lesions in medical units.

He explained that 30 percent of the country’s population does not have social security, which is why this center contributes by offering care to all women between 40 and 69 years of age. He added that the specialist medical personnel have the necessary tools and equipment to carry out the biopsies.
