Global leaders and experts to discuss development strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean at seminar in Mexico / @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- At a crucial time for Latin America and the Caribbean, when global and regional challenges are complexly intertwined, the international seminar “Rethinking Development in Latin America and the Caribbean from Mexico” is an essential platform for rethinking development strategies. The event will be held September 9-11 at the headquarters of Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), with the sponsorship of CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM).

The seminar will be attended by Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra; CAF’s Executive President, Sergio Díaz-Granados; the Rector General of UAM, José Antonio de los Reyes; and the Rector of UAM Xochimilco, Francisco Javier Soria López, to analyze and devise solutions to the economic, social and environmental problems affecting the region.

The meeting will address issues such as low GDP growth, environmental impacts, inequality and the fragmentation of the global economy. Leading academics, former public officials and experts will share their perspectives and formulation of viable policies in a multidimensional dialogue.

The event will serve as a platform for the creation of a task force to continue the debate on strategic and structural issues in the region. The winners of the call for proposals, in which 123 young researchers between the ages of 18 and 40 participated, will also be presented at a working group focused on the areas of international trade, macroeconomics and financing for development, productive specialization and dynamics, productivity, inequality and poverty, and environmental sustainability.

Latin America and the Caribbean face unprecedented challenges in an increasingly complex world. The region has gone from a significant economic rebound in 2021 to a pattern of slow growth, with persistent problems in investment, productivity and sustainability. The global financial crisis, the slowdown in international trade and climate risk are just some of the factors that accentuate the external, social and environmental gaps that limit the region’s progress. In this sense, the seminar is positioned as an essential platform to address these critical issues and generate viable proposals for the future of the region, through in-depth analysis and enriching dialogue. This event will seek to lay the foundations for a more equitable, sustainable and resilient development.
