Operation Toca Puertas arrives in Colombia, the third largest tourist source country for Mexico / @SECTUR_mx >>>
#SECTUR.- The head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) highlighted that Mexico and Colombia are strategic partners, with a relationship linked by strong cultural and commercial ties, where tourism is no exception, as thousands of tourists travel annually between the two countries.
He reported that, in 2023, 735,175 Colombian tourists arrived in Mexico by air, which represents 22% more than in 2019, the year prior to the pandemic; while, tourist spending by Colombian citizens in Mexico last year was 827 million 771 thousand dollars, that is, 37.1% more than in 2019.
Accompanied by officials from state Ministries of Tourism and entrepreneurs in the industry, Torruco Marqués presented before more than 100 tour operators from Colombia the seminar “This is Mexico”, where he showed the wide tourism offer of our country to key players in the industry in the South American nation.
He pointed out the importance of the tourism industry for the national economy, and also spoke about the latest developments in tourism products; priority projects such as the Mayan Train, Islas Marías, airports such as AIFA and Tulum; and other infrastructure works that facilitate the movement of tourists between Mexico’s 270 tourist destinations, which benefits the local population, in compliance with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s instruction to make tourism a tool for social reconciliation.
It is worth noting that during the seminar, the most popular destinations for tourists in Mexico were highlighted, such as Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Mexico City, to mention a few, as well as destinations where nature and adventure tourism, culture and gastronomy stand out, for which tour operators showed great interest, among them the 177 Magical Towns, 32 Magical Neighborhoods, the 35 sites declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, archaeological sites, to mention a few.
