#SRE.- The Ministry of Health, through the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) celebrated the start of the XI Pan American Conference for the Harmonization of Pharmaceutical Regulation (CPARF), attended by representatives from the Americas and the Caribbean.

With the firm commitment to achieve regulatory convergence and harmonization for the benefit of the health of the populations of the 34 member countries of the Pan American Network for Pharmaceutical Regulatory Harmonization (PARF Network), work began on the exchange of experiences and strategic challenges for the region, with the aim of deepening the mechanisms that accelerate the integration of supply chains.

During the inauguration of the CPARF, the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer Varela, stated that the fragmentation of health services and the lack of regional health self-sufficiency weaken health systems, especially in the face of possible emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

He explained that, in this context, it is essential for regulatory agencies to provide specialized training for their personnel in areas such as regulatory sciences and technological and scientific innovations to meet the needs of each country. In addition, it is essential to promote innovation, research and development strategies to strengthen national and regional production of essential drugs, which will be achieved through intersectoral collaboration with a multidisciplinary approach.
