#IMSS.- In the framework of the World Suicide Prevention Day this September 10, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) calls on the population to be attentive to identify warning signs at a personal level and in the family nucleus, in order to prevent these incidents.

Tomás Delfino Alcántara Ramírez, leader of the Social Security Psychology Project, asked people to go to the corresponding Family Medicine Unit (UMF) if they or someone close to them shows drastic changes in their behavior, isolates themselves, expresses hopelessness, talks about wanting to die, ending their life or seeks methods to harm themselves.

“At IMSS, committed to the mental health of our children, adolescents and adults, we offer timely support with a multidisciplinary team,” he said.

He recalled that, in addition to mental health care in clinics and hospitals, Social Security has assistance services and suggests as a preventive measure the use of the Life Line, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on the telephone number 800 911 2000, where immediate support is offered.

María Del Pilar Rodríguez Rivera, coordinator of Social Work Programs, pointed out that suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility, from the family, social circle, work and institutions.

“This is a day to remember that everyone can be part of the solution. If you are going through a difficult time, it is time to act,” he said.

He stressed the importance of detecting the first warning signs, as this is what can make the difference in safeguarding a person’s life.
