Ministry of the Interior evidences irregularities in the Judicial Power / @lopezobrador_ @GobiernoMX >>>

#GobiernoDeMéxico.- Interference in electoral matters, cheating in the selection process of judges, nepotism, lack of discipline in the performance of justice providers and salaries that violate the Constitution are the main flaws that the Executive Branch seeks to remedy through the reform of the Judiciary, argued the Secretary of the Interior, Luisa María Alcalde Luján.

In a morning press conference with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, she argued that, even though the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Power is the highest authority in electoral matters, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation tried to get involved in the June 2 election.

In August of this year, the presiding minister, Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, admitted an appeal by the leader of the National Action Party (PAN), Marko Cortés, for the Court to interpret and define the criteria for the assignment of plurinominal deputations in Congress, when this is the exclusive competence of the Electoral Tribunal.

The process of selection of judges is tainted by the sale of exams for 186 thousand pesos. In addition, there have been documented cases of corruption at the highest level in the Judicial School. As a result of these faults, the competitions are frequently challenged due to inequity, influence and lack of objective criteria.

Regarding nepotism, the Federal Judiciary Council (CJF) revealed in December 2022 that half of the personnel, equivalent to 24,546 people, have at least one relative in the Judicial Branch.

For example, 85.4 percent of magistrates and 67 percent of judges have relatives in the Federal Judiciary. This information is obtained from the voluntary registration made by the workers, under oath, so it is estimated that the presence of unregistered in-laws, such as brothers-in-law, daughters-in-law, fathers-in-law and sons-in-law could be higher.
