Historic investment earmarked for conservation of Pico de Orizaba National Park / @GobiernoVer >>>

#EstadoDeVeracruz.- With an investment of 40 million pesos, the State Government, together with the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources and Constellation Brands, will carry out an unprecedented reforestation project to protect 1,800 hectares of Pico de Orizaba, which are fundamental for the generation of water resources.

The Agreement for the Restoration, Conservation and Environmental Education of Pico de Orizaba National Park establishes a sustainability strategy for this protected natural area, guaranteeing the water supply for the next four years and the annual return of 1.6 million cubic meters of water to the environment.

Among the actions, 300,000 plants will be produced; three brigades will be installed, one temporary with seven members and two permanent brigades with five. With respect to culture and communication, 10 workshops will be held, 82 water harvesting modules will be created, and three technical professionals will operate permanently in the polygon.

This initiative is in addition to the 37.7 million pesos applied in the Cofre de Perote for the care, restoration and firefighting and is an example of the commitment of government, private sector and society to the environment, said Governor Cuitláhuac García Jiménez.

In her speech, the head of SEMARNAT, María Luisa Albores González, pointed out that during the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, 44 protected natural areas equivalent to five million hectares were decreed; she emphasized that this is possible thanks to work like this in which serious companies concerned about safeguarding natural resources are involved.
