#GobiernoDeMéxico.- Elements of the Ministries of National Defense and the Navy, as well as the National Guard, maintain a presence in Sinaloa in order to guarantee the security of the population, said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“There is the Army in coordination with the Navy, the National Guard, the state police; they are pending. I want to tell the people of Culiacán, of Sinaloa, that we have sufficient presence to guarantee peace and tranquility,” he said.

In a morning press conference, he explained that the current situation in the state corresponds to confrontations between two criminal groups in Culiacan.

“There are sufficient elements of the Ministry of Defense, of the National Guard; everything also so that there is no alarmism, sensationalism (…) There is fighting between two groups and we have to try not to affect the population and also so that they do not confront each other,” he said.

The Mexican Government, said the President, reviews the country’s situation on a daily basis during meetings of the Security Cabinet in which events of the last 24 hours are followed up.

The Chief Executive reiterated that the security strategy is advancing by addressing the causes of violence and the creation of the National Guard, which has 130,000 trained and disciplined operative elements.

During the six-year term, a 19 percent reduction in intentional homicides was achieved, in contrast to the administrations of Felipe Calderón (2006-2012) and Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018), which registered an upward trend in the crime rate.
