#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated, in the company of President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the “Benito Juárez” artisan road in Guelatao de Juárez, Oaxaca.
Along its 43 kilometers long, it runs through Guelatao de Juárez, San Juan Chicomezúchil, Santa Catarina Ixtepeji and Tlalixtac de Cabrera. It has viewpoints, bridges, restaurants, camping areas, six cabins in Guelatao, eight in Chicomezúchil and eight more in Ixtepeji, from which the Zapotec highlands can be appreciated.

The general director of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples, Adelfo Regino Montes, said that it is possible to tour it on foot or by bicycle. Altogether, he pointed out, the road and the cabins meant an investment of 350 million pesos.

“It is important to highlight that the resources have been administered in an honest and responsible manner by the communities themselves, building the works directly, without any type of intermediation or tutelage,” he emphasized.

He reported that 222 artisan roads have been built in Oaxaca, connecting the same number of municipalities. They make a total of 2,902 roads with an investment of 12,762 million pesos.

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jorge Nuño Lara, informed that the Programa de Caminos de Mano de Obra has been replicated in nine states and a goal of 411 roads, which total 3,844 kilometers and represent an investment of 17,873 million pesos.

He announced that the highway infrastructure in Oaxaca had an investment of 12,762 million pesos in 2,814 kilometers of 216 roads, of which 204 roads have been completed, doubling the length of the toll-free federal network in Oaxaca. They benefit 550,000 inhabitants of 201 municipalities and 523 communities.
