Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena will participate on behalf of President López Obrador at the UN General Assembly / @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, will attend the high-level week of the 79th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), to be held in New York from September 22 to 30, with the theme “Leaving no one behind: acting together to promote peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations”.

During the high-level week, Foreign Minister Bárcena will meet with her counterparts from other UN Member States and heads of various international organizations and UN agencies, with whom she will address priority issues for Mexico, including the peaceful settlement of disputes, migration and human mobility, Feminist Foreign Policy, disarmament and non-proliferation, climate change, the global drug problem, illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons, and food security.

On September 22, Secretary Bárcena will participate in the Summit of the Future, where a critical analysis of the functioning of the multilateral system will be made, concrete actions will be presented to address current and emerging challenges in the global context, and the Pact of the Future, which promotes fair, inclusive and sustainable development, will be adopted.

On Monday, September 23, the Mexican Foreign Minister will take part in panels at the World Economic Forum to discuss strategies to address the geopolitical recession and climate change.

Subsequently, on September 24, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) will attend the Summit of the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats, as well as the high-level event on democracy and combating extremism, which seeks to intensify the fight against inequality and misinformation to prevent the advance of intolerance in the international arena.

Secretary Bárcena will also meet with representatives from Indonesia, Korea, Türkiye and Australia, countries that -together with Mexico- make up the MIKTA group, to foster greater cooperation and advance in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.
