#SICT.- The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jorge Nuño Lara, affirmed that at the end of the current administration, 549 highway works will be concluded, with an extension equivalent to 7,682 kilometers (km), and an investment of 227,464 million pesos (mdp), representing almost 1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

One of the objectives of these infrastructure projects is to connect regions where there was no communication; to safely reduce travel time, which is valuable for people: “there were highways that were taking 8 hours and in this administration we have reduced them to 4 and 5 hours”, he added.

Mitigation and environmental compensation for the execution of works were taken care of. With the highway program, one and a half million jobs were created, and those generated by the airport and railroad infrastructure should be added.

While participating in the conference “Dialogue with Engineers”, organized by the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico (CICM), the president of the organization, Mauricio Jessurun Solomou, presented an award to Secretary Nuño Lara.

“I want to thank and recognize the great work done by Mr. Jorge Nuño Lara during his tenure as secretary, involving and using civil engineering in all its specialties, according to the needs of each project,” he said.

During his speech, Nuño Lara said that the works developed by the SICT fulfilled long-delayed desires that had been postponed for decades and focused efforts on reversing the regional socioeconomic imbalance through connectivity works that directly benefit 55 million inhabitants.
