#SECTUR.- The official of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) referred that Michoacán is a place full of traditions; music; copper, clay and wood crafts; and mentioned that its richness must be known and admired by tourists from all over the world, for the good of tourism in the state, and the country, which is why its authorities are promoting some of its main attractions, which are already recognized nationally and internationally, such as: the Day of the Dead; the Monarch Butterfly sighting season, and the Pan-American Race.
“Michoacán also offers places such as lakes, beaches and volcanoes; and a delicious gastronomy, a culinary art that served as a paradigm for the traditional Mexican cuisine to receive in 2010 by Unesco, the appointment as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, being the first in the world to be awarded this title,” he said.
He emphasized that the Day of the Dead is a tradition that originates in our Mesoamerican cultures and merges with Catholic customs, becoming a celebration full of color, joy and mysticism. It is worth mentioning that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) declared the Day of the Dead festivity as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.
He pointed out that this celebration, so representative of Mexican culture, has become a reference for travelers from all over the world who want to live this magnificent experience, which, in recent years, has had greater diffusion.
He commented that the sighting of the Monarch Butterfly, in the sanctuaries, which is also an Intangible Heritage of Humanity, is another great spectacle in which every year, from November to March, millions of butterflies migrate from Canada and the United States to spend the winter in Mexico, specifically in the limits of the states of Michoacán and the State of Mexico.
In this reserve, which covers a little more than 56,000 hectares, tourists, in addition to witnessing butterfly sightings, can visit the sanctuaries: El Rosario, Sierra Chincua and Senguio, as well as visit the Magical Towns of Tlalpujahua de Rayón and Angangueo.
He also informed that the 37th edition of the Pan-American race returns to Michoacan, on October 14 and 15, it will travel through ten municipalities of the state, this is a sporting event that will take place from October 11 to 17, it will start in the city of Oaxaca and will conclude in the capital of San Luis Potosi.
