#SRE.- During his appearance before the Foreign Relations Commission of the Senate of the Republic, the Foreign Minister-designate, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, announced that during this administration the priority of foreign policy will be the defense of national sovereignty and to watch over the security and human rights of the Mexican community abroad.
“Above any other, the defense of national sovereignty […] to reiterate that there will not be the slightest concession under any circumstances. Defending sovereignty also implies defending the interests and attending to the needs of our nationals,” he said.
During the meeting where he presented the axes of foreign policy, which are based on the constitutional normative principles that are in force, in accordance with and guide Mexican diplomacy, the Chancellor highlighted the commercial ties with North America and identity with Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as relations with other regions of the world and in multilateral forums, which will continue to be strengthened.
“Mexico must continue to play a leading role at the multilateral level. Mexico has enormous prestige in multilateral forums, I can tell you based on my recent experience during the last five years at the United Nations. Mexico is a respected country, Mexico is a reliable country. We are going to deepen our foreign policy,” he said.
At the end of the hearing, the senators of this commission, headed by Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, approved by 14 votes in favor the ratification of Juan Ramón de la Fuente to occupy the position, which will be confirmed this Wednesday, October 9, when he will be sworn in before the full Senate of the Republic.
