#SICT.- The Government of Mexico began preliminary works for the construction of 225 kilometers (km) of the passenger train that will connect Mexico City with the State of Mexico, Hidalgo and Querétaro. The work will benefit a population of close to 6 million people, stated the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina.
During the announcement, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and the governor of Queretaro, Mauricio Kuri González, the head of the SICT said that, with this, the present administration will continue and accelerate the return of passenger trains, improving the country’s connectivity.
This work, essential for the consolidation of the country’s passenger rail network, will immediately benefit more than 30,000 people who travel between Mexico City and Queretaro every day, he emphasized.
During the kick-off ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was signed between SICT and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), where President Claudia Sheinbaum signed as a witness of honor.
With the Mexico-Queretaro Train, the march to connect the country through clean, comfortable and faster transportation continues. The trains will run at a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour with capacity for 450 passengers, in a 1 hour and 40 minutes trip, which will allow savings of about 40 percent.
