#SRE.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, met this Monday with Daniel Karam, President of the Lebanese Center, and with Elías Achar Levy, President of the Central Committee of the Jewish Community in Mexico, whom he congratulated for the joint communiqué they both signed in favor of peace on the border between Lebanon and Israel.
Chancellor De la Fuente pointed out that this act “is an example that reaffirms the tradition of hospitality of a pacifist country that should transcend our borders”.
On his part, Elías Achar Levy highlighted the spirit of this act: “The Mexican Jewish community longs for peace in the Middle East, we want the countries of the region to live without terrorism, without the attacks they have had to suffer, that peace comes soon, that there are no more victims”.
Meanwhile, Daniel Karam pointed out during the meeting that “we are very hopeful that this initiative, unprecedented in the world, will have an echo and that it can be replicated in other parts of the world and that what we are saying in the communiqué, immediate peace in Lebanon and Israel, will be achieved”.
The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), welcomes the joint call for peace that the Lebanese and Jewish Mexican communities have made for the knowledge of public opinion, given the painful and dangerous situation in the Middle East to the detriment of thousands of innocent lives.
Mexico is the beloved home of both communities and the pacifist vocation of our country is fully expressed in the joint communiqué they signed, which also represents an essential component of our constitutional principles of foreign policy, since it sends a message for the construction of international peace and security.
