#EstadoDeMéxico.- María Eugenia Rojano Valdés, Secretary of the Countryside of the Government of the State of Mexico, informed on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, that more than 50 percent of the subsidies delivered through the program For the Rescue of the Countryside, for producers in priority areas, have gone to women.

“By indications of our Governor, Maestra Delfina Gómez Álvarez, we have given more attention to rural women who had always been the most unprotected and the most forgotten,” said Rojano Valdés.

According to the Secretaría del Campo, women in priority areas have received more than 6,500 subsidies for agrotunnels, backyard farms with rabbits or poultry and corn mills, among other inputs from the program Por el Rescate del Campo, out of a total of 11,000 delivered so far.

Among the most requested supports are backyard laying hens, with almost 3,500 applications accepted in 50 priority municipalities, which contribute to achieving a healthy diet, since, according to the United Nations, this is one of the problems affecting rural women.

In addition, more than 1,200 grants have been awarded for the purchase of corn mills, which contributes to improving the economy of rural families and communities that make their own tortillas from the harvest.

We have also provided 1,000 grants for cisterns with their respective water pumps to guarantee access to water for small-scale agricultural activities led by women.

The municipalities where this support has been delivered are: Tejupilco, Texcaltitlán, Acambay, Jocotitlán, Ixtlahuaca, Atlacomulco, Amecameca, Juchitepec, Chalco, Atlautla, Ozumba, Coyotepec, Ecatepec, Morelos, Chimalhuacán, Tepetlaoxtoc and Ixtapaluca.
