#Atizapán, #Edoméx.- The artisan talent and creativity of Atizapán de Zaragoza stood out in the Parade and Contest of Monumental Alebrijes 2024, with the piece “Kupan Altizatl” (Eagle over the White Water, in Nahuatl), whose beauty made an impact during its journey through the main streets of Mexico City.
The event organized by the Museum of Popular Art, which celebrates the artisan talent of diverse regions of Mexico, counted with the participation of 188 pieces from entities such as the State of Mexico, Mexico City, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Morelos, San Luis Potosi and Tlaxcala.
The parade began at 12:00 noon in Mexico City’s Zócalo, where there was a colorful and exciting atmosphere that also passed through emblematic avenues and streets of the Mexican capital such as 5 de Mayo, Juárez Avenue, and Paseo de la Reforma, until reaching the Angel of Independence Roundabout.
During the journey, “Kupan Altizatl”, creation of Dolores Rocio Perez, Carla Napoles, Monserrath Monroy and Jesus Hernandez, received the applause of thousands of people who gathered to admire the nearly 200 fantastic creations that seemed to come to life during their journey.
The creators of the alebrije atizapense, belonging to the Subdirección de Cultura de Desarrollo Social, acknowledged the support of the Mayor, who throughout his administration has promoted art and culture with various activities of song, dance, theater and different expressions such as the Festival Atzán, which has brought together more than half a million attendees and dozens of national and international artists.
The Eagle over the White Water is 2.60 meters high and weighs a little more than 70 kilos, it is a handcrafted piece that symbolizes the identity and roots of the municipality of Atizapán de Zaragoza, which in this 2024 commemorates 150 years of municipal life.
