#EstadoDeMéxico.- With an economic benefit of 2 million 304 thousand pesos, benefiting 360 rural producers, the Secretaría del Campo has carried out 73 editions of the Tianguis Colibrí, where fair trade is promoted in favor of producers and local economies.
Thus, the Government of the State of Mexico through the Secretaría del Campo, municipalities, producers and traders have expanded the scope of the Tianguis Colibrí, bringing quality food to the population directly from the hands of those who produce it.
As of October 15, 2024, 22 editions of the Tianguis Colibrí have been held at the headquarters of the Secretaría del Campo in Metepec, benefiting 360 rural producers, with an economic benefit of 1 million 804 thousand pesos.
At the same time, 51 editions of the Tianguis Colibrí have been organized in 26 municipalities, which to date have generated an economic benefit of half a million pesos.
According to the Marketing Directorate of the Ministry of the Countryside, the tianguis with small producers and the promotion of short circuits of marketing and local consumption are fundamental for several reasons because they support the local economy by buying directly from small producers, the money stays in the community, fostering local economic growth.
These tianguis offer producers opportunities to sell without intermediaries, allowing them to obtain a fairer price for their products.
In addition, short marketing circuits reduce the need for long-distance transportation, which reduces carbon emissions and the use of energy resources. By consuming local and seasonal products, dependence on foods that require more energy for storage or transportation is also reduced.
The importance of linking the delegations of the Secretaría del Campo with the municipalities lies in the fact that it is by working together that new marketing spaces can be created and offered to rural producers, artisans and traders.
