Undersecretary of Foreign Trade begins working visit to the United States and Canada / @SE_mx >>>
#SE.- The specific objective of the visit, explained Undersecretary Gutiérrez Romano, is to demonstrate Mexico’s commitment to being a strategic ally in facing challenges and opportunities on the international stage, and to strengthen North America as the most dynamic and competitive region in the world, in accordance with the vision of President Claudia Sheinbaum and Secretary Marcelo Ebrard.
In Ottawa, accompanied by Ambassador Carlos Joaquín González, Undersecretary Gutiérrez Romano will meet with his counterpart Rob Stewart, Undersecretary of Foreign Trade of Canada, Aaron Fowler, Associate Deputy Minister and Deputy Commissioner of Trade, and Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada. The meetings will aim to discuss opportunities for investment and innovation in supply chains, particularly in strategic areas such as semiconductors, mining, energy and biotechnology.
In Toronto, the Undersecretary will speak with business groups in the city, such as the Council of the Americas of Canada, where there will be the opportunity to interact with Canadian companies to share our investment strategy and economic policies, as well as to hear about areas of opportunity in our country that have been identified by Canadian investors in common supply chains.
In New York, he will meet with companies that have recently shown interest in expanding their operations or investing in Mexico, such as Goldman Sachs and Global Infrastructure Partners. The objectives are to provide certainty, resolve doubts about the state of the country’s labor and macroeconomic market, provide guidance on the legal and logistical process for commercial operations, as well as listen to proposals for improving our assistance framework to provide better step-by-step support for the materialization of investments.
Finally, in Washington, he will meet with officials from U.S. federal government agencies, such as Cara Morrow, from the office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR); Undersecretaries Michael Kaplan and Paul Rosen from the Department of the Treasury; Grant Harris, Under Secretary of the Department of Commerce; Brian Nichols, Under Secretary of the Department of State; and Nevtej Dhillon and Alex Jacquez of the National Economic Council. Topics will be discussed to improve economic coordination and promote better integrated value chains in the region, address infrastructure challenges for cross-border trade, as well as explore opportunities for cooperation and trade within the framework of the Mexico-United States-Canada Agreement.
He will also take the opportunity to visit a data center to hear about areas of opportunity for the integration of our industries and make Mexico more competitive in information technologies. In this segment of the visit he will be accompanied by Ximena Escobedo Juárez, head of the Strategy and Institutional Organization Unit of the Ministry of Economy.
